Not sure, to be honest! There was once a plan to build a railway along the Thames through central London - a true Victorian steampunk idea - but the Thames is considerably more roomy so the ratio of bridge to river would have been very different.
The Australians have done something similar in Brisbane, although it's more like a motorway built out from the river bank than going up the middle of the river. I don't think I can upload a photo to show you.
